Lighting work we handle

Indoor, outdoor, and commercial lighting

Lighting installation is electrical work — and it ranges from a simple fixture swap to a full new circuit with panel additions. We handle the full scope.

Recessed Lighting

Can lighting installed cleanly in existing or new ceilings. We plan the layout, run cable through the attic or walls, and wire to a new or existing circuit — minimal patching, finished result.

Dimmers & Smart Switches

Dimmer switches and smart lighting controls require compatible wiring and a neutral wire in most cases. We verify compatibility, add a neutral if needed, and wire the switch correctly.

Outdoor & Patio Lighting

Outdoor fixtures, soffit lights, wall sconces, and patio string light circuits need weatherproof boxes, GFCI protection, and proper conduit or direct-burial cable runs.

Pendant & Chandelier Installation

Heavy fixtures and chandeliers require a proper junction box rated for the weight. We verify the box, ensure the circuit is adequate, and make the connections clean and secure.

Under-Cabinet & Accent Lighting

Kitchen under-cabinet lighting and accent lighting in millwork or shelving requires low-voltage wiring or dedicated circuits depending on the system. We handle both.

Commercial Lighting

Tenant improvement lighting, retail track lighting, lay-in troffer replacements, and exterior commercial fixture installation — we work in small commercial and retail environments.

The electrical side of lighting

Lighting is a wiring job, not just a fixture job

A lot of lighting problems come from the wiring — wrong dimmer for the fixture, a circuit that cannot handle the load, a junction box not rated for the fixture weight, or outdoor wiring that was not protected properly.

We approach lighting installation the way we approach all electrical work: identify what the circuit actually needs, do it correctly the first time, and leave the installation inspection-ready.

What we take care of

Circuit capacity check before adding new fixtures
Proper junction boxes rated for fixture weight
GFCI protection for all exterior and wet-location circuits
Dimmer compatibility with LED and CFL fixtures
Neutral wire availability for smart switch installs
Clean wire runs — through attic, walls, or conduit
Switch leg wiring for new fixture locations

Common questions

Lighting installation FAQ

Do you install recessed lighting in existing ceilings?
Yes. We install recessed lighting in both new construction and existing homes. In existing ceilings we assess the ceiling type, attic access, and wiring runs to plan the cleanest possible installation. We keep patching to a minimum and leave the ceiling looking finished.
Can you add dimmer switches to existing lights?
Yes, in most cases. Dimmer compatibility depends on the fixture type and bulb. LED fixtures in particular need a compatible dimmer to work properly. We specify the right dimmer for your fixtures and wire it correctly so there is no flickering or buzzing.
Do you handle outdoor and landscape lighting installation?
Yes. We install outdoor lighting — patio lights, soffit lighting, wall sconces, security lighting, and dusk-to-dawn fixtures. Outdoor circuits need weatherproof boxes, GFCI protection, and appropriate wire runs from the panel. We handle all of that as part of the scope.
Can you install lighting in a commercial space or retail environment?
Yes. We work with small businesses, retail spaces, and commercial tenants on lighting installations and upgrades. This includes track lighting, lay-in troffer replacements, exterior signage lighting, and circuiting for new commercial lighting layouts.
Do lighting installations require a permit?
Simple fixture swaps generally do not require a permit. New circuit runs, panel additions, or significant rewiring typically do. We will let you know upfront whether your project requires a permit and handle the coordination if it does.
